Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Regulations prescribes requirements pertaining to means of containment (containers) for dangerous goods transport.  In most cases Part 5 requires that anyone handling, transporting or offering dangerous goods for transport must use containers in accordance with certain Safety Standards (CSA or CGSB standards).  Along with the TDG Regulations, the standards indicate what containers are permitted for a particular dangerous goods and prescribe the requirements for the container use and maintenance.

Only facilities registered by Transport Canada are allowed to manufacture, assemble, retest or repair TDG containers.  For some container types the standards require functions like design review or in-plant inspection to be done by persons or agencies registered by Transport Canada.
